As the saying goes, “Better late than never.” Instagram has finally listened to users’ pleas and introduced a long-awaited feature: the ability to add not just one, but up to five links in your profile bio! This announcement was personally made by Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, on his Instagram account, calling it “one of the most requested features.” And honestly, it’s hard to argue with that.
Until now, Instagram’s single clickable link in the bio has been a constant headache for bloggers, brands, and anyone wanting to share multiple resources with their audience. Users had to rely on Link In Bio tools, creating additional link-aggregator pages.
How Does It Work?
You can add multiple links by editing your profile in the mobile app. Each link can have a custom title, and you can arrange them in your preferred order. Sounds great, right? But, as always, the devil is in the details.
Despite the ability to add five links, Instagram’s implementation isn’t perfect. When someone visits your profile, they’ll only see the first link along with a small note saying “and 1 more” (or however many extra links you’ve added). To view the rest, users need to click again. So, even if you simply want to share multiple important links, your followers still have to make an extra click. This slightly dampens the excitement around this update.
That said, it’s still a step forward. Instagram is likely working to make its platform more appealing, especially given the turbulence on Twitter following its acquisition by Elon Musk. Some frustrated Twitter users may be looking for alternative platforms, and Instagram’s expanded features might help attract them.
Despite some flaws, this is a long-awaited and useful update that improves Instagram’s usability and might attract a new audience amid changes in other social networks. Hopefully, Instagram will refine this feature in the future to make it even more seamless.
